Object II (DV), 2017
Domestic Violence (DV) happens behind closed doors and is often suffered in silence by the victim and might even not be aware that it is happening. This series of photograph expresses the feelings of the victim that is suffering mental and and emotional buse.
The domestic tea towel has had a normal long healthy life, a few stains that do not come out any longer, but that is what it gives it character.
Still very respectable and organised
Neglected and tossed in a corner, disregarded.
Soaked and wrung out tightly and left in that state
Bound and tied, fully restricted and controlled
Soaked in dark tea, tainted for life, loss of confidence and self-doubt
Released from ties for only moments, always anxious and clearly stained from past experiences.
Pulled from each corner so hard it changed shape and exposes all there is to see all stains and marks from the past included, so ashamed
Forcefully lashed against a tree 100 times, left torn
Hung out to dry for everyone to see, all the damage that has been done
Last bit, wholly torn and broken, nothing left and left the situation.
Picked up the pieces and carefully mended them by hand with a thread that blends with all the damaged marks. Forever damaged and scarred, loads of wounds to heel, return to dignity, respect, and self-belief.
